Since 1972, the Nanthahla Outdoor Center has shared the outdoors with millions of guests on white water river rafting trips, with all varieties of kayak and canoe instruction, on mountain bikes and around the world with their adventure travel trips.
Located in western North Carolina near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, NOC is within easy driving distance of Atlanta, Charlotte and Knoxville. Their world-class staff leads white water rafting trips on seven of the Southeast's best rivers, including the Chattooga River, Cheoah River, French Broad River, Nantahala River, Nolichucky River, Ocoee River, and Pigeon River. You can learn to whitewater paddle from the pros in their renowned canoe and kayak Paddling School. They also offer adventure-learning programs for groups of all types, ropes course climbing, flat water lake kayaking and hiking.
Again, NOC operates trips on seven rivers, spread across four Southeastern states. Each of their river trips has a dedicated outpost. The only river trip that departs from NOC's main outpost on the Nantahala River is the Nantahala River Trip. Please call the NOC for further information about the other river rafting trips and post locations, contact information is below.
From Franklin, NC take 441 towards Dillsboro/Sylva. When you get to Dillsboro, 441 merges with US 74. Take 74 West past all Bryson City exits. Eight miles west of Bryson City, the four-lane highway you are on will split into two 2-lane roads. Stay on 74, which is the left lane. Go another five miles. On the last descent you will see a yellow caution sign on the right indicating you are entering the Nantahala Gorge. Just after the sign you will see the Nantahala River, and NOC's Nantahala Outpost.
Trips on the Nantahala River begin and end at our Main Campus on the Nantahala River. This outpost is located in far Western North Carolina on US Highway 19, approximately 12 miles west of Bryson City, on the south side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
